Originally from New England and having attended college at Carnegie Mellon University, Dan Gilbert lives and works in beautiful Sonoma County in Northern California. Dan is known worldwide for his brain-teaser puzzle series Triazzle and for his wildlife and event posters, commissioned by many of the country's leading institutions.
Dan's business began in the late 70s as a poster publishing company, Miller/Gilbert Publishing, which designed and marketed commemoratives for many of the nation's foremost wildlife institutions, festivals and businesses. His work was instrumental in launching products for retailers The Nature Company and Natural Wonders and he designed editions for National Wildlife Federation, African Wildlife Foundation, The National Aquarium in Baltimore and others.
The studio became Dan Gilbert Art Group, a multi-disciplinary business working with global customers in consumer product design, branding, packaging, identity, collateral, illustration, application interface and web design. During the 90's the studio developed numerous proprietary puzzles and games and designed nature-themed products for manufacturers of home furnishings, gifts, stationery products and apparel.
In 1991 he published the first Triazzle brain-teaser puzzles selling over five million copies of nearly 100 designs worldwide. Triazzle has been developed as two computer games and in 2009 an iPhone app. A new cross-platform Triazzle is scheduled for release in Spring of 2010.
With partner Gail DaMert, Dan now runs Clear Blue Sky Design LLC, a product development company specializing in his own unique puzzles and games.
